How Executive Order 20-87 Will Impact Florida Community Associations

Governor Ron DeSantis issued an Executive Order on March 27, 2020, that prohibits an owner from renting or leasing their unit/property as a vacation (short-term) rental.  In issuing Executive Order Number 20-87 (“Order”), Governor DeSantis recognized that vacation rentals and third-party platforms advertising vacation rentals in Florida present attractive lodging destinations for individuals coming into Florida.

In summary, the Order states that the rental of any house, condominium, cooperative, or dwelling unit shall not be rented or leased on a short-term basis (defined as a period of less than 30 days or 1 calendar month) while the Order is in place.  The Order shall expire 14 days from the date of the Order (i.e. April 10, 2020) unless extended by a subsequent order.

This Order will impact how many Associations conduct day-to-day operations.  If you need any assistance, please contact us at CAGroup@moorheadlaw.com, and we will reply to your message as soon as possible.
